Millionaire Was Executed
Yuan Baojing, the former head of Jianhao Group, was executed capital punishment in Liaoning Province in the last week, according to a judgment held by Higher Court of Liaoning Province. In the meantime, two of his three accomplices were also executed. Another accomplice was decided a death penalty with a two-year suspension of execution, a punishment which is equal to life imprisonment in China. All three accomplices are Yuan's brothers.
The court held, on October, 2003, Yuan instigated his three brothers to kill a man which heavily extorted Yuan for his possible illegal actions in some stock transactions. Most of Yuan's wealth came from stock transactions. It is estimated Yuan and his family had a wealth of about USD 6 billions in China and oversea. In 1990s, Yuan once set up a scholarship fund with about RMB 10 millions for poor college students in the mainland.
The executions have caused hot discussion in the Internet, in relation to whether the punishment is heavy or not, whether there are some secrets about government in the case. It is commonly said the punishment is heavier than the public think.
